This ACA Endorsed course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to teach standup paddleboarding and yoga on a standup paddleboard. An ACA L1 SUP Instructor & SUP Yoga Instructor Endorsement is awarded upon successful completion of this course. This is an instructor certification course and not a skills course, therefore, please look at the instructor criteria for Level 1 and self evaluate your skills before registering, as payment and attendance does not guarantee certification.
ACA L1 SUP & SUP Yoga Instructor Training:
Fri-Sat, June 9-10
(Day 1-2) with Matt Hite
Skills you’ll learn in this course include group management on flatwater and in mild conditions, teaching methods, trip leading methods, safety and how to teach the paddle strokes, moving around on the board, different stances, draws and more.
Sun, June 11
(Day 3) with Mary Lou Cerami
You will learn the SUP Yoga movements and poses, how to safely adapt and modify yoga poses to a standup paddleboard and conclude the 3-day training with a SUP Yoga class co-taught by all.
About the Instructors:
Matt Hite holds certifications and has experience working with a large majority of the SUP certifications available today (ACA, PaddleFit, and WPA). Be informed and learn from one of the best, who is actively teaching and training other instructors in the sport of SUP. Learn more about Matt Hite.
Mary Lou Cerami is a Level 2 ACA SUP Instructor and SUP Yoga Endorsement instructor. Since 2012, Mary Lou has been part of the ACA SUP Yoga Advisory Workgroup, a volunteer sub-committee of the ACA’s SUP Discipline Committee, working on developing a SUP Yoga program that would be nationally recognized. As of 2014, the ACA SUP Yoga Instructor training is underway, with Instructor trainers located across the United States. Mary Lou Cerami is based in Chicago serving the Midwest region.
All instructors signed up must have their current age appropriate First Aid and CPR up to date.
To receive your SUP Yoga Endorsement, Instructor Candidates must be a registered yoga teacher or equivalent.
Instructor candidates should have prior SUP knowledge and experience coming into the workshop.
In order to pass at the appropriate level, ACA Instructor Candidates must be able to demonstrate skills, knowledge, and teaching ability.
A Typical Course Schedule:
Day 1 – Intros, Instructor Candidates teaching topics, IT teaching strokes & manuevers, IT teaching rescues
Day 2 – Candidates teaching strokes to each other, Candidates teaching topics, IT teaching advanced skills, Candidates filmed/assessment, Exit interview
Day 3 – SUP Yoga movements & poses, Practical applications of SUP Yoga, Anchoring options & techniques, Teaching a group class, Final Q&A and discussion.
Paddleboarding gear is included with the training cost. Includes: Paddleboard, leash, PFD and wetsuit (if needed). Please dress to be in the water.
